Characterization of Zirconium Phosphate/Polycation Thin Films Grown by Sequential Adsorption Reactions

Monolayer and multilayer thin films consisting of anionic α-zirconium phosphate (α-ZrP) sheets and polycations (poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH), cytochrome c) were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), ellipsometry, UV−visible absorbance spectroscopy, reflectance FT-IR, XPS, and X-ray diffraction. Titration and powder X-ray diffraction experiments confirm that exfoliation of α-ZrP begins to occur when enough tetra(n-butylammonium) hydroxide (TBA+OH-) has been added to exceed single-layer packing of TBA+ ions (x ≈ 0.50) in the intercalation compound Zr(HPO4)2-x(TBA+PO4-)x·nH2O. Proton conducting polymer composites for electrochromic devices

Abstract This report describes composite proton electrolytes composed of nanosize zirconium phosphate or antimonic acid particles suspended in a poly(vinyl acetate)/glycerin gel matrix. The proton conductivity was 10 −3 –10 −4 S/cm at room temperature, thermal stability prevailed up to at least 110°C, and compatibility was found with oxide electrodes; these properties makes the electrolyte suitable for use in solid state electrochemical devices. The temperature dependence of the conductivity was found to obey the Williams-Landel-Ferry relationship at temperatures over 60°C, thus suggesting that the ion conductivity in the composite electrolyte can be described by mechanisms normally taken t…
Proton-conducting zirconium phosphate/poly(vinyl acetate)/glycerine gel electrolytes

This work reports on a proton gel electrolyte composed of zirconium phosphate (ZP) particles suspended in a poly(vinyl acetate)/glycerine matrix. The material was studied by X-ray powder diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, impedance spectroscopy, and spectrophotometry. It had a proton conductivity of 1–0.1 mS/cm at room temperature and remained stable and transparent up to at least 110 °C; it therefore appears suitable for uses in electrochromic devices. The structure of the ZP powder and of the gel is discussed in terms of water removal from interplanar spaces by heating or exfoliation. Stabilization of the rhombohedral phase in LiZr2(PO4)3 by thermal quenching

Abstract Two LiZr2(PO4)3 samples, which show rhombohedral and monoclinic symmetries, have been studied by powder XRD and MAS-NMR (31P and 7Li) techniques. In the monoclinic sample phosphorus occupies three crystallographic sites and lithium is preferentially placed in M2 environment. When the samples are subjected to successive heating-quenching treatments, the rhombohedral phase is not appreciably modified while the monoclinic phase is transformed into the rhombohedral one. In the quenched samples only one site for phosphorus has been detected and occupancy of lithium in the more symmetric M1 site is favoured.
